Playlist for March 20, 2007 (Broadcast 2-5:30 p.m.)
This week's show began (almost) immediately with music (Wiggy's Ramblings came
later in the show--it's the Mission-Accomplished Four Year Anniversary
Anti-War Tirade!!!)
I begin with a talk about Van Morrison's new double-live CD that I am
going to feature, then talk briefly (as briefly as I can--which isn't
saying much) about the day's guests, including Susan Ashelford &
Lisa Blanchard, both merchants from Milford, Connecticut (and friends
of Cool Bob) who talk about the upcoming "Open Doors of Downtown
Milford" art installation, Professor Louie from the Crowmatix and Miles
Marek from the FTC (who never showed up). There is, of course, also
some complaining from me about the traffic on I-95. I also
mention Professor Louie's upcoming free concert at the Westport Public
Library on April 15th.
This week's musical theme: The Belfast Cowboy Goes to Texas and Comes Back with a Double Live Album!
Van Morrison:
Call Me Up in Dreamland (CD single, recorded live in Switzerland/Point Blank Records)
Debut! Van Morrison's new Double Live CD: "Van Morrison Live at the Austin City Limits Festival"
(The album is not released in the United States, but you can order it
directly from www.vanmorrison.com by clicking on the "shop" link. The
service is fast and reliable, but you do have to pay for overseas
shipping.) This is an amazing album--yet another incredible live
recording from Van. The sound quality is perfect, the band is
extraordinary and Van is at the top of his game.
Disc Two:
Real Real Gone/You Send Me
Saint James Infirmary
Moondance
It's All in the Game/You Know What They're Writing About
Precious Time
Don't Start Crying Now/Custard Pie
Wild Night
Break/talk.

Professor Louie & the Crowmatix
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down (from the CD "The Spirit of Woodstock" on Woodstock Records, recorded live at the New York State Museum in Albany, New York).

Van Morrison's new Double Live CD: "Van Morrison Live at the Austin City Limits Festival"
Cleaning Windows (from Disc One)
Radio Drama: The Norman Corwin Series
Norman Corwin: Our third episode in a series of broadcasts of radio dramas from the
1940's master of radio drama, Norman Corwin. We heard the story El Capitan and the Corporal. I'll
be broadcasting a new 30-minute drama each 3rd Tuesday of the month at
4 p.m. At one time Corwin had audiences exceeding 60 million listeners!

Wiggy's Ramblings...
Then, finally, Wiggy's Rambings! I get the chance to go on yet
another tirade. This time I talk about the great people at the corner
of East Main and Evergreen Place in Stratford who held a small but encouraging peace rally
to mark the 4th anniversary of Idiot Bush's "Mission Accomplished"
war. My voice starts to give out as I go after the Pres and his
cronies for abondoning our soldiers who volunteer to fight in Iraq and
then come home to horrible health care at the VA Hospitals.
Then I, unexpectedly (for me!) launch into another tirade about the
lack of photojournalism and war photography coming out of the Iraq war.
Remember the nightly "body counts" from the Vietnam War during the
1960's. High praise to Dan Rather for going to Vietnam and risking his
life. Mentioned: David Hume Kennerly (who won the Pulizter
Prize for his photojournalistic coverage of Vietnam and Robert Capa who
lost his life covering war). Where are the pictures of this war? Where are the photojournalists?
Back to music around 4:30 p.m...
One more from Van's live album:
Back On Top (track one, disc one--featuring some great guitar work from John Platania) Playhouse (disc one)
And yet another new cd from Van Morrison:
Van Morrison at the Movies
Wonderful Remark (from the movie "The King of Comedy")
Brook Benton and Dinah Washington
From the triple cd boxed set: You've Got What It Takes (a bargain set that I found on Amazon from a used dealer).
I didn't write down which tracks I played, but this boxed set is
incredible, everything is beautiful. It was manufactured in Portugal
(of all places) and I played about four or five tracks.
I finished the set with A Rainy Night in Georgia. Then I finished the show by playing (and fading out on) Tony Joe White's
version of that song--that he wrote! I always thought Brook wrote the
song, but it was written by Tony Joe White. It comes from his excellent
cd "Uncovered." For more about Tony Joe White visit: http://www.tonyjoewhite.com/
