Chateau de Chenonceau
Chateau de Chenonceau is one of many beautiful historic chateaus in the Loire Valley region of France and it's my favorite chateau. Chenceau sits over the river Cher, where the unique beauty of its architecture reflects in the water.
Chenonceau is also called the Chateau des Dames because it owes a large part of its charm to women: it was built in 1513 by Katherine Briconnet, then made even more attractive by Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medicis, and saved from the rigors of the French Revolution by Mrs Dupin.
The chateau is surrounded by very pretty formal gardens and to reach the chateau and gardens you walk up a long wooded road--very beautiful and amazingly romantic. If you are planning a visit to Paris, the Loire Valley is only a short two-hour drive through some of the prettiest countryside in France and is absolutely worth a trip.
