I have written more than 35 books about photographic technique that have collectively sold millions of copies. The books described below are my most recent books and if you click on the cover image it will take you directly to Amazon where you can read more about the book and also read customer reviews.
My latest book The Photographer's Master Guide to Color is now available on Amazon. This is a book I've wanted to write for years and is one of the most thorough looks at the subject of color and color photography that you'll find. The book opens with a fairly in-depth look at the history of color, human vision and the theory of color and then applies those ideas and concepts to color photography. You'll read about how color triggers emotional response, how certain colors and groups of colors can be used to establish mood and color contrasts, saturation and tonal ranges alter the interpretation of a scene. Other topics covered include the effects of weather, light and seasons on photographic colors. There is also an extensive chapter on night photography and the book closes with a look at how you can use Photoshop and other editing tools to not only correct colors but to exaggerate or even alter them. I think you'll find it a fun and interesting read. The book is illustrated with hundreds of my photo as well as photos by some of the world's best color photographers.

Shutterbug magazine wrote: "Possibly the best book ever written on the subject."
If getting great exposures has been your nemesis (as it was for me for many years), this book will help. It is, I believe, the best and most comprehensive guide to exposure in print. The book presumes no prior knowledge, but it takes you from the very basics of exposure (What is an f/stop? What are shutter speeds?) through the entire theory of exposure: finding middle tones, understanding how color affects exposure, how time of day and the seasons affect exposure decisions, the difference between jpeg and RAW, etc. It also goes into advanced exposure techniques like HDRI (high dynamic range imaging). If you want to understand and conquer exposure once and for all, this is the book to read.

Originally published in 2005, The New Joy of Digital Photography is the third edition of one of the bestselling digital photo books ever published. An instant hit when it was first published, it remains one of the most popular digital books in print and all editions combined have sold nearly 100,000 copies. This is a lavishly illustrated and beautifully produced introduction to digital photography that explains everything about digital photography, from cameras to image editing, in a very easy-to-follow and inspiring book. If you're looking for one book that will introduce you to the joy of taking pictures with a digital camera--any digital camera--you'll love this book. There's even an essay about how Elvis Presley helped advance digital-imaging technology (and he really did!).
